I want a man
who cares not whether
I succeed or not but who applauds
outrageously when I do.
I want a man
who listens well and talks
succinctly, a man who
rides my political horse,
savors my gumbo
and sniffs out wants and desires
lying beneath temperate
longings
to present our day
in columns beyond the headlines
to settle at the place
where I am.
