  turn it off

 Paul Sohar

turn it off

turn that thing off
turn it off right now
off i said
turn that damned thing off
i don’t care what it is
           i want it off
if you make me turn it off
it’s going to stay off for good
no one will ever have to listen to it again
no one will ever hear it again
no one will ever hear anything again
except the echo of the click because
it’ll make some click
when i turn that damned thing off

Table of Contents

Paul Sohar gave up his formal education with a B.A. in philosophy to take a temporary job while pursuing literature. The results have slowly crept into Chelsea, Chiron, Grain, Hunger, Kenyon Review, Partisan Review, Rattle, Seneca Review, and elsewhere, and six books of translations from the Hungarian, including Dancing Embers (Twisted Spoon Press, 2002).
