  Ask the Angels

Kathyrn Burkett

The angels think it’s funny to
watch people plead for their lives.
If they’re only going to a better place,
it seems rather absurd.

They say it’s like Disneyland
for the dead, except there are
no long lines and the ride never
ends. It’s an eternal float on
Cloud #9, it tastes like a rainbow,
pure colored light dancing
on invisible taste buds.

If this is all true, then why
are the angels always looking
down upon the Earth with such
love and longing in their eyes?
