  Bright

 Paul Sohar

i may be told only to go
to the corner store
but if i find a bright sky outside
that’s where I’m headed
the sidewalk maybe rigged with potholes
and dog-do but who cares
when i’m floating over the asphalt
over the city
over the world

you people can have it all
the streets
         the cars
                 the dogs
when all i want is the sky
when i must dive
into the ocean of light
calling overhead

Table of Contents

Paul Sohar gave up his formal education with a B.A. in philosophy to take a temporary job while pursuing literature. The results have slowly crept into Chelsea, Chiron, Grain, Hunger, Kenyon Review, Partisan Review, Rattle, Seneca Review, and elsewhere, and six books of translations from the Hungarian, including Dancing Embers (Twisted Spoon Press, 2002).
