  It Isn't Funny

Kathyrn Burkett

A Polish man, a Chinese man, a Rabbi, and a fireman
walk into a Mexican restaurant. Absolutely nothing
worth mentioning happens--no hilarious comedy
of errors, no slapstick, no rude remarks.

There's no punch line here, just a motley bunch of
men eating dinner. They sit around eating quietly
waiting for something to happen. Thousands of miles
away, in Hollywood, a movie's being made about
a Rabbi who's a superhero and a Chinese man
who serves fortune cookies that really come true.

Somewhere else, a fire is burning, and a Polish man
dreams of rabbits while sleeping in a feather bed.
