The sun
burns through glass
bead curtains of autumn rain
Blue dragonflies whirl
around a maple sapling
in a buzzing vortex of wind
Tree swallows dive
into the swarm
like children bobbing for apples
The rain lies down
in the earth’s open mouth,
pulls a green blanket over her head
and dreams of turquoise fighter jets
that hiss and burst
inside her ear.
